Urban rail transit

Tram (streetcar, trolley system)有轨电车

A tram, streetcar or trolley system is a rail-based transit system that runs chiefly or completely along streets, with relatively low capacity and frequent stops.

Light rail轻轨

A light rail system is a rail-based transit system that has higher capacity and speed than a tram, but it is not fully grade-separated like rapid transit. Light rail is usually powered by electricity, generally by means of overhead wires, but sometimes by a live rail, also called a third rail, requiring safety measures and warnings to the public not to touch it.

Rapid transit 快速交通系统,尤指地铁

A rapid transit, underground, subway, tube, elevated, or metro system is a railway—usually in an urban area—with a high capacity and frequency of service, and grade separation from other traffic.

Monorail单轨列车、单轨电车

A monorail is a metro with a track consisting of a single rail, as opposed to the traditional track with two parallel rails.

People mover/automated people mover旅客捷运系统

A people mover or automated people mover (APM) is a fully automated, grade-separated mass transit system which serves a relatively small area such as an airport, a downtown district or a theme park.

The term “people mover” is generic, and may use technologies such as monorail, duorail, automated guideway transit or maglev. Propulsion may involve conventional on-board electric motors, liner motors or cable traction.

Commuter rail通勤轨道交通

A commuter rail or regional rail system operates on mainline trackage which may be shared with intercity rail and freight trains. Systems tend to operate at lower frequencies than rapid transit systems, but tend to travel at higher speeds and cover longer distances.

Maglev磁悬浮列车

The principle of a magnet train is that floats on a magnetic field and is propelled by a linear induction motor. They follow guidance tracks with magnets. These trains are often referred to as Magnetically Levitated trains which are abbreviated to Maglev.
