上诉案件通常有两种结果：维持原判(maintain the original judgment)，或者推翻原判(reverse the original judgment)，另外还有一种可能是退回一审法院进行补充审理（send the case back to the trial court for additional proceedings）。

中国的人民法院的组织体系分为四级，即设基层、中级、高级和最高人民法院。
