翻译时，选词需要考虑语境，语境是否积极还是消极，英汉直译是否表达的是同一个意思，这都值得考量。英文和汉语之间的逻辑有所不同，翻译都需要先理解再翻译，直接词对词，可能会偏离原来要表达的意思。下面举了两个示例，都来自《理解与表达：汉英翻译案例讲评》。这两个示例就很好地证明了这一观点。

设计成为中国最热门的专业之一，甚至已渗入到社会生活。（北外高翻某一年的入学考试）

原译：Designing has become one of the hottest majors in China, and even infiltrates in social life.

改译：Design has become one of the most popular fields of study and is affecting every aspect of daily life.

注：Hottest近乎俚语，不适合这一语境。使用“infiltrates”则表达强烈的否定含义，这里其实是积极的含义。

社会生活并非“social life”，“social life”的含义是工作之外的社交，例如聚会等，用在这里则理解有误。

国外年轻设计师也开始拥入中国，想在这个全球最有活力的消费市场上一试身手。

原译：Lots of overseas young designers have begun to flood into China, hoping to try their luck in the most robust market in the world.

改译：Young designers are flocking from overseas to try their luck in this most vibrant consumer market in the world.

注：“Flock”比”flood”或者”swarm”好，因为”flood”和”swarm”都暗含贬义。
